GameStooge Flashback: Halo 2: Dion Arroyo Remembered
Sunday Nov 16, 2014
Sunday Nov 16, 2014
During final parts of the end credits of Halo 2, various people give 40 character or less shout-outs to friends, family or whomever (one entered, “Hamina! Hamina! Hamina!” for whatever reason). However, there’s always one that puts a lump in my throat – the very first one simply stating “For Dion Arroyo 3-3-83 / 9-11-03″. It’s a simple memoriam that goes well with the sad, sweeping music by Martin O’Donnell at that point. If you want to know more, you can read an article from last year’s Long Island Press:Tragically killed in a car accident on September 11, 2003 at the young age of 20, Dion Arroyo was a former Bellport High School student who studied Computer Science at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue. An excellent student who was very well respected and bright, Arroyo touched the lives of many with his overwhelming generosity and kind heart. The day of his accident, students, faculty and friends gathered outside in the campus quad and wept while he was fondly remembered during a 9/11 prayer and dedication ceremony. The Dion Arroyo Memorial Scholarship was initiated by brothers of the Delta Psi Omega Fraternity in memory of their former brother and friend.“In life, Dion Arroyo was there for anyone who needed him,” said Ben Tieniber, President of Delta Psi Omega at St. Joseph’s College. “Dion was a great friend and we are committed to honoring his memory through this scholarship. With it, we hope Dion can continue to help some fellow students in need.”
